Nancy started her career in healthcare sales 34 years ago. She called on doctors and dentists selling capital medical equipment and soft goods to providers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After four years of sales success in the Bay, Nancy moved back to her hometown of Clovis, California. She was hired to work for an established diagnostic lab. Nancy was responsible for seven draw stations, lab sales to doctors in the area and even became a phlebotomist by default. About nine months into her job, the company was sold. Nancy was unemployed and had just purchased her first home, she was 26.
Always figuring out a way, Nancy put on a nice blue suit and walked her resume into a local hospital. She was hired a few weeks later to turn around a dying Physical and Occupational Therapy program that had been in the red for several years. Nancy was their last hope before the program was to be shut down for good. A solid business development plan and dedicated Providers who committed to quality care made for a remarkable and quick turnaround. Nancy and her team had the clinic in the black within six short months.
Moving to Lakewood, Colorado, Nancy and two partners engaged in a start-up practice that was designed to evaluate an employee's ability to return to work following a work-related injury. Advanced Work Concepts was a non-biased 3rd party, day long, intensive test for patients. The company was sold to Theraphysics within a year and a half and then shortly sold again to Concentra. Nancy was offered a sales position, but declined because the position required her to sell a product that was undesirable to providers so Nancy set out on her own without knowing she was pregnant with her second son, Nick.
As a true entrepreneur does, you find a way when the impossible is staring you in the face. Pregnant with nausea, Nancy started a healthcare equipment leasing brokerage out of her home. Within a few weeks she was on her way making great money and loving every minute of her work. She worked with doctors, dentists and various business owners to lease equipment to enhance their businesses. It was a perfect job since Nancy used lease financing herself closing business early on in her career.
Then 2008 happened....
Providers were late on their lease payments, patient lending companies were barely approving anyone so, Nancy came up with the unique idea to design an in-house patient financing company. That was the Genesis of her first fintech, Healthcare Finance Direct (HFD).
Wishing nothing but the best for her former partners, in April of 2016 Nancy decided to sell her interest in HFD and start a consultancy with two of her current partners, about all things consumer and patient lending. After two successful years, she and her partners started Choice Payment Servicers (Choice). Choice was designed to meet the needs of healthcare and dental providers as well as retail merchants to eliminate the fragmented and frustrating process when consumer/patient lending was necessary for a consumer or patient to move forward with treatment or a sale. Choice led with legal to ensure Providers and Merchants offering lending programs are doing so in a compliant manner. Nancy holds the position of CEO and is on Choice's Board of Directors.
Because there is no grass that grows under Nancy's feet, she has started an additional business to help providers combat a handful of infectious diseases. She is also launching her Podcast, The Nancy Kay Coy Show featuring "Everything Consumer and Patient Lending." Her book, "Finance Rx is expected to be in print by March of 2024.
